There was great excitement at Oxbridge School as all students travelled by coach to Silvermine Beach on Lantau Island for this term’s Thematic Learning Activity Day

This trip was linked to the thematic learning topic in the classroom and provided a wonderful opportunity for each class to engage in hands-on, practical, enquiry-based learning.

Students in Y1 and Y2 took part in a scavenger hunt where they had to find locations using a compass and a map. Y3 identified different forces on Lantau and how they are affecting people's lives. Y4 collected a variety of rocks and shells for further investigation and grouping back in the classroom. In addition, the students created sandcastles, focusing on the compaction and cementation of sedimentary rocks.Y5 conducted a beach clean up and collected the rubbish to study and categorise back in the classroom. Finally, Y6 identified a variety of rocks that can be found on the coast, mountains, and land of Hong Kong. They then categorised the rocks found into metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous rocks.

After a picnic lunch and some relaxation, students enjoyed sports on the beach such as football and volleyball before then returning to school happy and a little tired having enjoyed another rewarding and enjoyable Thematic Learning Day!
