We are thrilled to share the incredible experience younger Oxbridge students had at the STEAM/STEM day held at HK Disneyland, held in collaboration with the Disney Youth Education team. The aim was to further enhance our students' interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM/STEM) and foster their curiosity as critical thinkers, excited about the possibilities of the future.
For our students, the focus was on recognising different 2D/3D shapes in our surroundings and understanding how elements like electricity and colour can enhance them. The students had an amazing time experimenting and exploring concepts such as surface tension and buoyancy through hands-on activities and even got to experience these principles on the "It's a small world" ride. They also learned about applying shapes, patterns, and colours in attraction design, as well as how electricity is utilised in various Disneyland attractions.
Moving on to our older students, the session centered around mechanics, ratios, and vision. They had the opportunity to identify different types of bridges and their structures, delving into the elements of mechanics. The students engaged in experiments, testing factors that affect the load capacity of paper bridges. Additionally, they discovered the presence of the golden ratio in our surroundings through engaging activities. To top it off, they experienced the thrilling "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle!" ride, where they could witness how centrifugal force impacts a rider's experience. Experimenting with cups and ping-pong balls allowed them to visually observe this phenomenon.
Overall, it was a day filled with wonder, discovery, and excitement for our students. We are proud of their engagement and enthusiasm throughout the STEAM/STEM day at HK Disneyland. Such experiences not only ignite their interest in these fields but also provide them with valuable real-world applications of the concepts they learn each day in our classrooms.
We extend our thanks to HK Disneyland and Disney Youth Education for their collaboration and for creating this memorable and educational experience for our students. Together, we are nurturing the next generation of curious and innovative thinkers!
