International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. At Oxbridge School, our Y5 students presented an informative assembly celebrating women's achievements and made us aware that opportunities should be based solely on merit and not on gender.
Y5 had chosen a variety of pictures, videos, and songs to clearly describe International Women's Day to our students, and they displayed great teamwork in the presentation. They also demonstrated dexterity and virtuosity in their Cup performances which impressed the assembly audience. Finally, they had the whole school perform an activity song, the actions of which became faster and faster - most students managed them perfectly, but not all staff kept up the pace!
At the end of the Assembly, the Principal introduced three newly appointed Prefects - all female and becoming Prefects based on their merits. This was, by coincidence, a vivid illustration of the Assembly theme today.
